Train to Teach
Schools Direct Route into Teaching
Short Heath Federation
The main aim of School Direct is to allow schools to recruit and select the trainees they want with the expectation that they will then go on to work within the school or group of schools in which they were trained, although there is no absolute guarantee of employment.
School Direct places are offered by a school or group of schools in partnership with an accredited teacher training institution. You can expect to gain placements and training in good and outstanding schools with extensive experience of delivering initial teacher training (ITT), and who excel at training and developing their staff.
All School Direct places will lead to qualified teacher status (QTS) and many, though not all, will also award you a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) validated by a higher education institution (HEI).
What we can offer:
Short Heath Federation work as part of Ryders Hayes Teaching School Partnership
At Short Heath Federation, and at Ryders Hayes we believe School Direct is a unique partnership providing an exciting opportunity for our alliance of schools to deliver initial teacher training, with an outstanding ITT partner of our choice. We are working with Woodlands Academy of Learning; Blue Coat CofE Infant and Junior Schools’ Federation, Oakwood School, Watling Street School, New Invention Infant School, Cooper and Jordan School, Goldsmiths School and Leighswood Primary as our partner schools, alongside Birmingham City University (BCU) as our chosen accredited ITT provider to bring together the very best of primary practice, supported by equally outstanding Higher Education and research at Masters Level.
